Microsystems acupuncture
Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture has been supplemented by a relatively new system of acupuncture called microsystems acupuncture.
Microsystems acupuncture was first discovered in the 1950s with the auricular microsystem (ear acupuncture) and this microsystem is probably still the most widely used. The theory of microsystems acupuncture is based on the belief that the entire body is represented on a small but well-defined area of the body, such as the ear, scalp or foot, and that the entire body can be treated by precise stimulation of the points of the microsystem.
Evidence shows that microsystems acupuncture is a powerful therapeutic technique. It is commonly used in places such as hospitals, prisons and drug rehab units alongside other medical treatments. It can also be used in diagnosis of problems by bio-electrical point detection. The activation of microsystem points results in a measurable change of electrical conductivity which can be detected by the acupuncturist when there is a problem related to the corresponding area of the body.
It is important to choose a qualified practitioner who has undertaken all the necessary training to understand the theory and practice of microsystems acupuncture.
You can check whether a microsystems acupuncturist is registered with the Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) by searching the register at www.cnhc.org.uk. By choosing microsystems acupuncturists registered with the CNHC you can be confident that they are properly trained, qualified and insured.
